I am now drinking my first lager- thank you Jamil et al.
It's a Maibock. question: myself and friend's are picking up a slight banana scent. Is this normal for the style?T.

(Surprised nobody answered this yet.)
Sorry, banana flavor or aroma is out of style for a Maibock.  Banana is caused by a warm fermentation coupled with not enough aeration (this leads to lack of yeast growth and production of the chemical iso-amyl acetate  -- see ).
To get rid of these off flavors next time, pitch plenty of yeast, maintain  cool fermentation temps, and be sure to provide plenty of oxygen so the yeast can grow in numbers so there are plenty of cells to reabsorb these byproducts later in the fermentation.

He could be right.  I wouldn't imagine that a lager yeast would give you that essence.   There are ale yeasts that'll give you banana-esque flavors; belgian ale yeasts and Wheat strains.   I usually get this when I try to brew in the  dead of summer.  Send me some and I'll tell you more.
