We are a small FDA inspected manufacturer of Bacillus bacteria for a variety of industries located in Shakopee, Minnesota. We ferment the bacteria with sterilized glucose and yeast nutrients in two 10,000 liter (85 barrels) jacketed fermenters. We centrifuge the broth, spray dry the sludge and custom blend to customer specifications. The position we’re looking to fill is a Brewer to operate the 531-plate heat exchanger (flash pasteurizer or processor) in fermentation, centrifuge, spray dryer, and tangential equipment. Execute fermentation schedule received from Vice President or Production Manager. Set up, take down, and operate fermenters, transfer lines, holding tanks, centrifuge, spray dryer, and miscellaneous equipment according to written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as safety and quality standards.
Execute Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP), Sterilize-In-Place (SIP) procedures after and/or prior to fermentation batches, centrifuge and spray dry runs according to written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as safety and quality standards.
Use technology to operate and monitor batches and equipment including but not limited to computers, digital readouts, physical and electronic gauges, scales, thermometers, and other such diagnostic equipment.
Use written and verbal communication to accurately record and document physical inventories, batch ingredients, times, temperatures, weights, volumes, other data, and deviations from standard process.
Interpret quality lab data to transfer, blend, and finish batches as liquid or dried products.
Collaborate with colleagues, Vice President, and Production Manager to troubleshoot mechanical or equipment issues.
Collaborate with colleagues, Vice President, Production Manager, Quality, and Lab Scientists to trouble shoot fermentation issues.
Obtain and/or maintain state boiler license to operate, monitor, and maintain safe boiler operating conditions.
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, biannually scheduled, and as needed sanitation and maintenance tasks.
Operate sit-down, stand-up, and walk behind powered lift trucks and pallet jacks to load and unload delivery trucks and shipping containers.
Perform assigned duties and cross-train with blending operations to perform other duties as required.
Maintain constructive and professional relationships with coworkers, laboratory technicians, contactors, and support service personnel. QUALIFICATIONS:
An employee in this position should have the following education/certifications, work experience, and skill set:Education/Certification: High School DiplomaPreferred Education/Certification (one or both): Technical degree or training in mechanical or electrical maintenanceAssociate’s or bachelor’s degree in a Biological or Chemistry related fieldWork Experience: 3+ years fermentation or food experienceFamiliarity with standard warehouse practicesTroubleshooting and repairing mechanical and/or electrical issuesMonitoring continuous processesGMP, HACCP, SQF training a plus.
