Here’s a weird one for you, if any of you are bored and don’t have anything to do I would love a response since I’m not sure what to do here. What I’m doing right now is very very close to Jimbos all grain. And one of my two fermenters one of the binder clips popped off. One of those big black clips with a couple of little stainless, I assume they’re stainless at least, handles. Was using it to keep the grain bag in place so I can stir every now and then during mash. Anyway, the damn thing popped off and now I have no idea where it is. I’ve got 10 gallons of water and 20 pounds of barley. I know this is an obscure one and nobody knows for sure, but do you guys think I really need to fish around for that thing? Any chance it will affect the flavor? Temp is about 148 right now but I suppose I could let it cool and find it. Could be in the grain bag, could be outside the bag and floating around in the water. Thanks.

Those are not made of stainless material. I would use a spoon to try to find it as I don't know how it will react in the acidic environment.
But maybe I'm being overly cautious.- New users start here

Need some clarification as to what the about all means..  if you are fermenting, then that temp is all wrong..  and what's outside and floating around.. ? ? ?
As to the blinder clip, forget about it..  in a few days it will be all done..  and get a better method of holding the bag like an elastic band..

I did that once, with a yeast starter poured from a flask straight off my stir plate.  Pitched the starter and ceramic spin magnet right into a keg of converted bourbon mash.  There isn't a whole lot you can do except maybe fish around with a long piece of hooked wire (sanitized) and hope for a bite.  Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.“Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite, and furthermore, always carry a small snake.”

MarsIt took my forty minutes but I found the damn thing.  Deep down in the grain, of course.
Was finishing mash at 148.  Letting it sit rest of day and maybe overnight to get to pitching temps.  Thanks, guys!

Last time I did something like this it as with a PTFE gasket. No fishing that out with magnets. By the time I squeezed out the grains I had completely forgotten it was there so it was a nice surprise to recover a gasket that was already sanded down for use on a keg."I have a potstill that smears like a fresh plowed coon on the highway" - Jimbo

Magnet on a stick. Assuming they're magnetic
I thought you somehow dropped a magazine from a gun in the fermenter.
