Howdy, all. Looking at making a dark rum. I really like the Kraken black rum. This will be my first try at a rum. I have no dundra to use. I can get plenty of feed store liquid molasses. Being the first time what recipe should I use? Also, how do they get to be so dark? I will be using a 12gal copper pot still with a thumper and a flake worm. As I said this is all new to me.Who is John Galt?
Happen to live in Seattle and have met folks from Kraken. Its been a while since I had this conversation, so things might be different now.
The basics. They do not distill their own rum. They buy different bulk rums, of different styles to get different flavors. Blend them, add their own flavor solution and then color it. That might be different now days. But thats how it started. So there is not really a recipe to remake it at home.
The "rum" for sale these days at the pub makes me weep.
Even Kraken, I can't taste rum.
Flavoured, spiced, coloured, sugared neutral... Yes.
Rum... Nowhere to be found...
All the crap that Diageo are coming up with for Captain Morgan...
They are just playing to the just legal crowd... I mean, pineapple and mango "rum".
They ask for it, can't even say how they want it... size of glass, mixer...
