Dear Brethren,
I've just wanted this business insider documentary on Mezcal. Now, I know they are distilling in a traditional setting with very little to no mechanisation but.... Just watch it, the plastic, rubber and other badness involved makes me very hesitant to drink it again after seeing this!

I have many fine commercial spirits that don't conform to HD rules in their production. I'm not about to pour any down the drain.
At home, I alone drink the majority of what I produce. If there is anything harmful in my equipment/production that could impact my health, then over time, I'll be dosing myself.
On the other hand, I only consume tiny fractions of other producers product. So I spend more time worrying about my own house and not so much what is in the bottle I just purchased.

I can certainly foresee that I may one day (may have even done so in the past) "drinking 1000ml of spirits in a 12h window"...
I wouldn't ever recommend folks adding methanol to anything.
Cheers,
jonny————

Indeed, the methanol bit was interesting. The distillation process and how they made cuts was different from what I'm used to, unless there was a language barrier and different terms!

Yep, it all does. I think they're using that due to some precedent of some Mexican small distilleries being very loose and cutting it in for volume.

Depending on what was fermented, some booze has practically none.
I suspect mezcal, might have more than most, since it's made from fermenting fibrous cactus.
Having said that I've drank more than my share of mezcal.
It's a good thing that mezcal has enough poisonous ethanol to be an antidote for methanol.

A word of warning.

Humans metabolize ethanol faster than methanol.
Long story short, if you have ingested methanol. Keep drinking ethanol for an extend time, so the antidote is present, until the methanol has slowly been excreted from your body.

yeah, the only methanol I drink is already mixed in with the ethanol in my booze so it's a simultaneous poison/antidote
