I am about to embark on a small project to rebuild parts of my still and condenser, with the express goal of making everything accessible for cleaning. The only part I won’t be able to get to with my fingertips and eyeballs is the insides of the shotgun tubes, and I have long brushes for those.
Given that, and the fact that the shotgun itself has already been built, tested, cleaned, and in use (I’m just replacing an elbow on the end with a triclamp ferrule), how important are both the vinegar and sacrificial alcohol runs? In this case specifically! I 100% unquestionably understand and adhered to the protocol when I built what I have now, and would do so again in a heartbeat. But in this specific instance, when I can get at every surface which might possibly have been contaminated and clean them mechanically and chemically with both acid and alcohol, is it necessary?Steve, you’re way behind time. This is not 38, but it’s old 97. You must put her into Spencer on time.

Both runs are important.  Being able to reach every part is not essential.  If I haven’t run my still in a while I don’t redo the vinegar but will do a sacrificial and partial steam cleaning with my feints. For New and Novice Distillers
