I'm trying to figure out how to reduce our can waste while we package.
I'm sure you all have the same issue. While canning, our depalletizer sometimes has malfunctions and we end up having to remove cans from the line, and with the cost of cans increasing and my company's zero waste goal I want to engineer out a way to reduce these cans from being wasted.
Currently, when we have an issue with the cans during the canning process our pack-out team uses a grabber to pick up the fallen over cans or the cans stuck on top of cans on the depalletizer or what ever cans that are causing a problem.
I think if we keep the grabber in sani or put the fallen over cans in a bucket of sani then reuse them I can reduce our waste.
Does anyone have any ideas or techniques they use to reduce can waste during packaging?

Hi, Paul! Curious about what depalletizer you're working with.

Our CE Can-I-Bus runs well, great machine SkaFab! It's just that sometimes the sensors can become misaligned, i've designed a jig that will keep things aligned better, but until then sometimes cans just fall over etc. Really I want to know what todo with the cans that are in the can shoot or have come off the pallet and we aren't going to be canning that sku for a few days. We throw out about two trash bags full every canning run and that fills up a 1.5 ton dumpster bi monthly, which equals about a pallet full of cans.

Oof, that is not ideal! Can you give our support team a call so we can identify the issue and make sure you aren't wasting cans? You can reach them at [email protected] or +1-970-426-4707.
